Active Release Technique® (ART)

ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

The fundamentals of ART are as follows:

  • to restore free and unimpeded motion of all soft tissues

  • to release entrapped nerves, vasculature and lymphatics

  • to re-establish optimal texture, resilience and function of soft tissues

During Treatment, Dr. Sandy will use her hands (Iron Thumbs if you will) to get into the tissues.

Tissues are prone to negative changes from trauma, such as swelling, fibrosis and adhesions. During treatment, she will apply compressive, tensile and shear forces to address repetitive strain injuries, cumulative trauma injuries and constant pressure tension lesions (I.e possibly the source of all of your pain).

Chiropractic Adjustments

The first step to an active lifestyle is a properly functioning spine and nervous system. Joint dysfunctions can cause you to experience pain, discomfort, decreased mobility, or many other symptoms and conditions. At Well Co, we assess joint dysfunction on a muscular skeletal level.

Dr. Sandy can adjust you by hand (manual adjustment) or with an Activator (tool adjustment). We also utilize our drop table for light gentle hip and low back adjustments. A special feature of our table is Flexion Distraction which helps with disc health and low back pain.

Dr. Sandy may not always adjust you. If you have any concerns or fears about Chiropractic, let her know. She is always willing to accommodate every client to their comfort level.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a 3,000 year old health practice that works to improve the body’s functions, and promotes the natural
self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomic sites.
Acupuncture needles stimulate the nervous system, releasing endorphins and relax musculature, to help relieve pain, affect mood, and overall health.

Graston - IASTM - GuaSha

Graston or IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) is a therapeutic method for diagnosing and treating disorders of the skeletal muscles and related connective tissue. We use stainless steel tools that have a “blade” or an edge, to palpate patients’ bodies in order to detect and resolve adhesions in the muscles and tendons.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of treatment where Dr. Sandy uses cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction vacuum. Sometimes she will use the cups to “glide” along the skin to increase blood flow in that area.

This is to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

In traditional Chinese medicine, cups are used to bring out “stasis”. When the circles are dark and purple, there is a stasis of blood in that area. This could be due to lack of blood flow, meaning decrease in oxygen. The purpose is to get the blood flowing again, bringing more oxygen to an area to increase healing.
